A Catholic cemetery is a sacred place of honor and respect for those who have died but also a memorial where people come to express their grief with the hope in the resurrection for those who have passed on.
Burial in a Catholic cemetery gives witness to one's faith; as our Catholic cemeteries are a symbol of a community unbroken, even by death. The word "cemetery" comes from a Greek word meaning "a place to sleep." We believe our Catholic cemeteries are gathering places for those who have "fallen asleep" in Christ and are awaiting the promised resurrection of the body, when Christ returns in His glory. Our cemeteries have been consecrated to God and the Church considers our cemeteries to be sacred ground.
When family members, friends and others visit our cemeteries, they will see sacred art, symbols of the Christian faith. These are reminders of what we believe . . . "the resurrection of the body." (The Apostles Creed)
